When was the last time you went to a show that was as much fun for the family as it was for the drivers? If you attended the 16th Annual Mustang and Ford Roundup at Silver Springs this year, you already know the answer. Held during the second week in January, it is always one off the first big shows of the year and easily one of the most popular all-Ford events in Florida. The reasons are simple. First of all, the attractions of Silver Springs Nature Theme Park are legendary, entertaining and educating tourists since 1878. Their world-famous glass bottom boats introduce visitors from around the country and around the world to the pristine under water scenery, still as breathtaking as it was when it was first discovered, more than 130 years ago. But the river cruises are only part of the attraction. Wildlife exhibits, rides and activities, botanical gardens, shopping, and dining mean there is something for everyone. While that might already be enough, the park adds to the fun by welcoming the first thousand vehicles into the annual Ford event absolutely free with each registered car getting passes for two for Saturday and Sunday. All about fun, there are no judges, no tech inspections, and no elaborate cleanups required. Judging was by popular choice and the emphasis was on good times rather than winning trophies. Although Mustangs were in the majority, there was an incredible variety of Ford products on display. High-end exotics like Panteras, Daytona Coupes, and Cobras were grouped together, but you could also enjoy unique vehicles on both ends of the spectrum, like Eddie Wheeler’s 1930 Ford Roadster, complete with a jug of moonshine on the running board or Tim Manes 1100 hp Pro-street 1965 Fairlane 500. Whatever your Blue Oval preference, you could always find something to attract your attention at this year’s Silver Springs show. Even though the weekend was one of the coldest in recent Florida history, complete with an early-morning snowfall, more than six hundred vehicles participated in the show, with some entrants capitalizing on the freak weather by adding snowmen to their display! Special thanks to National Parts Depot for their sponsorship of this popular Florida event.
