11th Annual Texas Style Cool Autumn Nites

A lot of things have changed during the past 11 years, but one constant is that if you wanted to really have a great time with your favorite hot rod or classic, you headed to historic downtown Beaumont, Texas for their annual car show. After many years of having great times during the hot days of August, two years ago the show was moved to October. With this move the only thing that changed was the cooler temperatures during the three days the show took place.

The 11th Annual Texas Style Cool Autumn Nites continued the tradition of offering participants a weekend full of fun starting on Friday with a kick off party at Cowboy Harley Davidson, a free drive-in movie showing “Two-Lane Blacktop” sponsored by the Beaumont Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Beaumont Cruise on 11th Street.

The show went into overdrive on Saturday morning with participants arriving downtown just as the sun was coming up over the Texas horizon. With several blocks of downtown Beaumont blocked off for the show, there was no problem finding a parking spot, but those that have been attending the show for years know the prime spots for getting out of the sun. By mid day several hundred cars & trucks were on display for the public to view. While their vehicles were on display, the owners took the opportunity to shop with the vendors that had set up the previous day. Live music and a DJ kept the music flowing, and when it wasn’t, there were car numbers being called out for winners of some really great door prizes. The t-shirt trailer was another spot of activity with participants that had pre-registered picking up their free event t-shirt. For the little hot rodders, there was a Revell-Monogram Make & Take area set up thanks to sponsors Corvette Specialist and Professional Healthcare. If the children weren’t into models there was also the always enjoyable automotive related coloring books sponsored by Tasco Auto Color/PPG. Saturday evening activities moved over to 11th Street for the really big Beaumont Cruise that had the four lane boulevard jammed with cruisers and lined with spectators. As always, the parking lot of CarQuest on 11th Street was the spot to try and park at or been seen cruising thru.

Sunday morning the early birds were not as early and the skies were starting to threaten rain. The participants rolled in at about the same time as the rain, the cars stayed but luckily the rain didn’t and the good times continued. The morning starting with a parking lot church service.  The last day of the event wrapped up with numerous drawings for cash, a set of Budnik wheels, a Walker radiator and a roll around tool chest. The award ceremony saw Top 50 trophies given out along with specialty awards and the best of show award went to Jon and Sherry Stevens with a restored 1950 Olds 88. The best of show award is not just the trophy but the honor of being the feature vehicle on the next years event t-shirt!

Thanks go out to the city of Beaumont for being such a great host for this show, to the event field staff of Texas Style Cool Autumn Nites and very special thanks to Johnnie & Malcom Andrus for keeping the show alive with your hard work as promoters.
