11th annual Delta River Cruisin’ Car Show Story by: Fred Minke Photos by Fred Minke and Ray Martino

It was a pretty day to head for Tunica, Mississippi for the 11th annual Delta River Cruisin’ car show held at Sam’s Town casino September 17 - 19 2010. This is a great show that was held for ’79 and older cars & trucks. Driving the ’36 Plymouth from Mobile, Alabama is a long way but it is worth the drive.

The Memphis Street Rod club puts on one heck of a show. They had over 500 pre-registered this year. Near that same amount came that was not pre-registered. That makes for one big show. The hospitality by the club and Sam’s Town would be hard to match.

The show field is one of the largest parking lots Sam’s Town has and it gets covered up with all makes and models. The host club keeps everything moving along smoothly with registration starting on Thursday for early birds through awards on Sunday. This year all was finished by just after noon on Sunday so all the folks could head for home.

The show has live entertainment on Friday evening with food supplied for all registered guests as well. The entertainer is Kenny Kid and he is a wild act on the piano along with his supporting guitars & drummer. The dance floor is very busy during the entire two plus hour show of old time rock-n-Roll and Kenny talking about his favorite musical idols.

Mike Lyons, president of the Memphis Street Rods club, with help from the club secretary, hand out about $600.00 during a music break at the Friday show. This money is donated by Ron Townsend Insurance Agency which offer collector car insurance through his office in Memphis. 12 lucky registered car owners received $50.00 each. The show is always a great weekend and many folks look forward to it each year. If  you would like to make plans for the 12th annual show keep the weekend of September 23rd to 25th  2011 open. We are already pre-registered and will be looking for your ride to include in my write up next time.

Check out the Memphis Street Rods website for information on this show and other activities they are involved in. www.memphisstreetrods.com

Until next time keep the music going and your Hot Rods running.
