2018 Iola Car Show Highlights Stars and Cars

The Iola Car Show is a production of Iola Old Car Show Inc., a non-profit corporation established to promote the collector car industry and the betterment of communities in the Iola, Wis., area. The July 11-14 event put the spotlight on TV and Movie Cars & Service Vehicles such as vintage police cars and ambulances.

With over 300 acres that showcase more than 2,200 show cars, 4,200 swap spaces, 1,000 car corral spaces and 1,600 camping spaces, the Iola Car Show is one of the biggest events for auto enthusiasts in the Midwest. The show offers free parking, Wi-Fi accessibility and complimentary bus services.

The 2018 show was an especially exciting one, since it was jam packed with special guest appearances, incredible cars, a giant swap meet, a pinup girl contest, a vintage camping trailer section and a car giveaway promotion.

Celebrities signing autographs at the show included the “Three Girls Garage” team, Butch (Eddie Munster) Patrick, Henry “Fonzy” Winkler, customizer Gene Winfield and Jo Coddington. Free concerts included with car show admission tickets featured the bands Vic Ferrari on Friday and Boxkar on Saturday.

In the Iola Car Corral 1,000 sites were available to people wanting to sell their 2000-and-earlier vehicles.  The offerings ranged from fixer-uppers to polished showpieces.  Car Corral vehicles at Iola must be able to run if they are parked on the ground.  Non-running vehicles are allowed to be displayed for sale on trailers.

On July 14 at 9 am, Wisconsin Hot Rod Radio did a live broadcast from Iola. Streaming on Milwaukee-based AM and FM stations, radio personalities Captn’ Bob and Arlo interviewed many of the big-name celebrity gearheads attending the car show including: Henry Winkler (The Fonz on the “Happy Days” TV Show and a movie star, director, producer and author), auto industry spokeswoman Jo Coddington of “American Hot Rod TV,” KC Mathieu of “Fast n Loud” TV and Wisconsin’s own Ringbrothers (Mike and Jim Ring) who are custom car builders known for their SEMA award-winning cars.

Also new this year was an indoor car display set up in the southeast corner of the former F + W Publications building, which has been donated to the Iola Car Show. A number of superior vehicles supporting the Star Cars and Service Vehicle theme were exhibited in this special area.
