20th Annual Caladium Festival Car Show

Welcome to Lake Placid, Florida for their 20th Annual Car Show

The 20th Annual Vintage and special cars, trucks, motorcycles and antique tractors gather to participate in Devane Park as this increasingly popular car show which was held on Saturday July 30th, 2016, and is defiantly why I come each year.

The weather is really an important part of having a car show in the summer months of Florida, between the heat and daily rain fall each day it sure can make it an iffy proposition. Last year it rained all around Lake Placid even if it did not in Lake Placid itself, it brought the normal car show traffic down to one third of the normal cars in attendance. The rain held off this year but I have to admit, when I arrived it was 84 degrees and less than an hour and a half later it was 90 degrees.  The lack of rain brought us the normal crowd of car participants but the hot weather brought a tear to my eyes, no I think that was just a lot of sweat.

This town has two nicknames—”Town of Murals” and “The Caladium Capital of the World.” Lake Placid has more than 40 murals painted on buildings throughout their town, and 98 percent of the world’s caladium bulbs come from Lake Placid. The Town combines a colorful combination of caladiums, murals, with a Clown College that graduates 25 new clowns a year into the community. The combination assures a magnificent stream of year round beauty that has repeatedly received national acclaim.

Known as the Caladium Capital of the World, Lake Placid has 27 freshwater lakes, those 40 beautiful Murals around town depicting their town’s history, Toby’s Clown School and the historical Happiness Tower which rises 270 feet above ground.  There is always something to see or do in Lake Placid, special events, fishing tournaments & even street parties!  Annually, they have their Country Fair and Caladium Festival.  You can enjoy a historically good time at the Depot Museum which is the home of the red caboose and local history artifacts displayed by the Lake Placid Historical Society.
