As usual, there were lots of cool custom vehicles at this year’s River Ranch Rod Run. We say that because enthusiasts have become used to the great turnout for this show and know in advance that it’s going to be a fun day. Now in its 25th year, the event draws a capacity crowd to the Westgate River Ranch RV Resort, a location that combines southern hospitality with a western flare. As the largest dude ranch in Florida and the only one where guests can arrive by land, sea, or air, it was the perfect choice for a car show. (In fact, most drivers chose to arrive by land!) The day was made even better by warm, 70°-in-January, Florida weather. In addition to the huge number of vehicles on display, enthusiasts had lots of options including horseback riding, pony rides, hay rides, golf, multiple restaurants & shops, tennis, fishing, bike rentals, swimming, and boat rentals. The Old Saloon was there to refresh you with something cold while the Old General Store could whip up a great hot breakfast. You could even stay a little later after the show and attend the Saturday night rodeo! Rich and Linda Martin from Sunshine State Rodding News host the event and thanks to an army of family and friends who lend a helping hand, everyone had a great time.

Of course, the real attraction for most was the cars, ranging from bone stock to heavily modified, with the selection including pristine examples of street rods, customs, classics, antiques, trucks, exotics, kit cars, and motorcycles. The atmosphere at this event is always relaxed with no judging to worry about. Pull in, park, reacquaint with old friends, and concentrate on having fun. Listen to deejay Butch Johnston spinning golden oldies and teasing with trivia. Watch the entertaining kid’s games, try your hand at riding the mechanical bull, wander through the swap meet, or just sit back and enjoy the passing parade of cars and people. The event wraps up Saturday afternoon with a brief awards ceremony, recognizing winners for Long Distance, Club Participation, and the Ranchers Pick where the River Ranch staff chooses their favorite.
