32nd Annual R.O.D.S. Run

Baton Rouge, LA

Article & photos by Larry Crain

In the days when everybody is trying to follow the trend of throwing the gates of their show wide open to almost every type vehicle this club stayed true to their roots in 2010 by remaining a Pre-49 only event. Over 150 street rods from across the south covered the parking lot of the Holiday Inn South in Baton Rouge during this beautiful weekend long event. Over the many years of hosting this event the Ramblin Oldies of Denham Springs have perfected the art of showing their fellow street rodders a good south Louisiana time. The rod run started with a Friday night early bird party with a free Cajun dinner for the participants! Saturday there was a swap meet area, auto related vendors and special guest Norm Grabowski was on hand signing autographs. Along with all of the parking lot visiting, looking at rods or shopping with the vendors there were some really great door prizes given out during the day to some lucky participants. The event wrapped up on Sunday starting with a morning parking lot religious service that was followed by the award ceremony where specialty awards, sponsor awards and Top 10 awards were presented. On top of the cool awards there was also a cash drawing for $500! If you own a Pre-49 street rod or just enjoy looking at them mark your calendar for February 4-6, 2011 to be in Baton Rouge, LA for the 33rd Annual R.O.D.S. Run. I had been hearing about this particular open show held in the mountains of western North Carolina for several years and found the stories about it a little hard to believe. The tales I heard were about a show held basically in the middle of nowhere.
