The month of February has all of the auto enthusiasts either looking for a show to go to or trying to get their sweetheart something for Valentine’s Day that is not automotive related. The show part is real easy to find because every February Motorsports Productions Inc. puts on a kick-butt event in the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. This huge two-level facility packed full of gleaming chrome & shining paint was gearhead headquarters for three days full of automotive fun in Birmingham, Alabama.

When the doors opened to the public on the first day of the show they were greeted by a building full of cars, trucks and motorcycles, all in competition for cash and awards that would be handed out on Sunday. With 350 entries into the event the ISCA judges would need all three days to narrow the field of competitors down to the top contenders that would be announced on the last day in the closing ceremony.

The convention complex was more than large enough for all of the displays with room left over for the 90 vendors that were on hand selling auto related merchandise and other goods…even some worthy of Valentine’s day presents. Spectators and participants had plenty to keep them moving thru the building with vehicles to look at, vendors to shop and plenty of celebrities to see. The list of celebrities that were on hand over the three days signing autographs and posing for photos was long and impressive. On different stages during the show days were Mountain Man from Duck Dynasty, Danielle from American Pickers, Victoria Justice from the Nickelodeon show Victorious, TV star Doc Shaw, West Coast pin striper Von Hot Rod, Bryan Fuller - former co-host of Two Guys Garage, the beautiful World of Wheels Pin-Up Girls, High Rollers BMX team, Darth Vader and the 501st Legion and the ever popular SpongeBob Squarepants.

When Sunday evening rolled around every participant was on pins & needles waiting to see who were going to be the big winners of this year’s event. The list is long and very impressive so I’m going to narrow it down to the top group. The complete list can be found on the events official website. The Fantastic 5 Awards went to Phil Becker’s 1932 Ford Coupe, Buddy Shores 1932 Ford Roadster, Gary Brock’s 1957 Chevy Bel Air, Cindy Campbell’s 1957 Chevy hard top and Phil Becker’s 1946 Ford Woody Wagon. Phil Becker’s 1932 for coupe also picked up the prestigious Vaughn Early Memorial Award that is presented to the vehicle that bests exhibits excellence in design and fabrication.

Thanks go out to Sonny, Adam, Deborah and the rest of the Motorsports Production event staff that kept the event rolling along all three days as smooth as silk. Be sure to mark your calendars for February 7-9, 2014 for the 43rd Annual Birmingham O’Reilly World of Wheels. For more info call 205-655-4950 or visit www.worldofwheels.net
