A Hot Chili Rods Memorial Service
Description

The memorial service for fellow Hot Chili Rods member Darryl Kay was conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday April 21, 2012 at the Fuller Metz Funeral Home in Cape Coral Florida.  Before his demise Darryl asked for a Hot Chili Rod memorial service and many members dressed in their Hot Chili Rods T-shirts showed up with their hot rods to do just that.  Darryl Kay, 71, of Cape Coral Florida took his last Hot Rod ride on Sunday April 8, 2012. Darryl was born in Cleveland, Ohio January 22, 1941.

Darryl served his country honorably with the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1966. He married Beverly Coffey in 1967 and lived in Fairview Park, Ohio where he worked as a journeyman plumber. Darryl moved into Cape Coral in 1979 and began working for the Franzese Plumbing Company until his retirement in 1999 at age 58. He became a member of the local Cape Coral Hot Chili Rods Car Club with his own red coupe hot rod.  Darryl attended many of the Hot Chili Rods car club outings, and now his club was there to support him in his last journey, heaven.

The funeral home really went all out by bringing Darryl’s car inside and displayed it along with the playing of Darryl’s Life Tribute video for all to view.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Beverly, his son Darryl (Gillian), his daughter Heather (Ed) Batha, his sister Nancy Hankins, four grandchildren; Devin and Brennan Kay and Emily and Maddison Batha all of Cape Coral, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
