Ferrari Club Cars on Fifth of Naples

I normally really like to go to Naples with this being the eleventh annual event held each year on Fifth Street in Naples, Florida.  This is the second time that I have attended that it also falls on lover’s holiday, Valentine’s Day.  When I woke to temperatures at only 41 degrees I thought the cold weather would keep people away, Boy was I wrong.

I wanted to get into Naples by 9am as the show is from 10am-3pm; I normally try to leave by noon as the crowds of around 30,000 spectators are filling in all the walkable space on Fifth Street.  We got to the show around 10am because my buddy, who attended with me, had not gotten back into the Cape Coral area until late at night so our departure was an hour later than normal.

I guess temperatures in the forties were like a tropical heat wave to all the snowbirds that recently flew down from -13 temperatures up north.  By the time we got to Naples the throngs of 30,000 were already on the streets, & by noon I’m predicting 40-50 thousand people in attendance, boy this was crazy.  As always things happen & my first was meeting with a Deep South Cobra Club member Jim Lepp attending with his powder blue Cobra roadster parked right out in front on the very first corner approaching Fifth Street.

Jim is the new president of West Coast Muscle Car Club of Naples & they had their canopy right up front.  Many of their club members had their cars present for this event.  It being Saturday February 14th 2015, Valentine’s Day & seeing a sea of all Red Ferrari’s is always great, but they do come in all colors of the rainbow, I just think Red is the most popular.

The Naples Ferrari Club is always well re-presented with every club members Ferrari being present to look at.  I just wish the crowds had not been so large early on as it makes it really hard trying to get pictures of all the cars, especially when you can’t step back far enough to get pictures of the entire car.  My buddy Russ did get to see all the cars but he really wishes people with buggies with their dogs inside would keep their pets at home. LOL Even if you wanted to make a little head way and went up on the sidewalk it was just jammed with people.

Don’t let me discouraged you from coming as this is a great show just make sure you arrive early if you actually want to see some cars.  The Ferrari Club of America Naples Charter, & their charity each year being the St. Matthew’s House 2001 Airport Road, S.  Naples, FL 34112 phone: 239-774-0500.  They collect $5.00 from each spectator entering & all is donated to the St. Matthew House.

The Power of that Gift & many others throughout the year allows for 100% of all public gifts (your donations) to directly support the life changing programs and transform the lives of those they serve.  Thanks to the success of their social enterprises, there able to cover all of their administrative costs… allowing for every dollar and drop-off from public donors giving to help save the lives of the vulnerable population that look to St. Matthew House for help.  To change lives in a spiritual environment that is both compassionate and disciplined, as well as provide housing for the homeless and food for the needy.  Years ago a group of devoted followers chose to act rather than watch their neighbors struggle. Today St. Matthew’s House continues that promise of action – providing the physical and emotional support to guide those hurting toward a renewed lifestyle.

Last year they served 376,000+ hot meals and housed 215+ people per night.

As I was taking my pictures my friend Woody approached saying he thought he had sold his one of a kind fast-back Cobra Coupe.  I recently wrote an article about Woody’s cobra that appeared in Crusin’ Style Magazine. In the number 222 issue, titled Readers’ Ride Woody’s Cobra.   Woody said he thought his Cobra was sold.  I asked & was told to Charlie Sheen.

A friend of Woody’s who owns a house a few doors down from Charlie’s house in Malibu showed Charlie pictures of Woody’s creation & he fell in love with the car & of course I wish Woody luck in making the sale.  My day was cut short when my camera battery died before I had gotten all the way down the street, to finish taking pictures.  It all worked out fine though because Russ had already thrown in the towel as the crowd had just over whelmed him & he could not wait until my phone call to get back together & head for our car for an earlier departure than normal.

All in all I still have more than enough pictures to give you an idea of all the cars & throngs of snowbirds in attendance to this great annual event.
