Happy Wife……Happy LIFE!!

Gregg & Janet Pellicer of South Daytona, Florida own this 1951 Chevrolet Sport Coupe. Gregg bought the car as an unfinished project and usually that means lots of work! No exception here, except that the taillights (tunneled 59 Caddy) and headlight areas (Tri-Bars, frenched) were already finished. Gregg needed another project as his wife said no more topless roadsters!

Purchased from a fellow Daytona Beach Street Rod member, Gregg set out to build a reliable cruiser to take his wife in. He recently sold his Model “A” but with several other roadsters in his collection, knew he wanted to make the wife happy as the saying goes you know – “Happy Wife…Happy Life”!

First order of business was to upgrade the powertrain and that was accomplished with a 350 crate motor and 200R4 Overdrive trans. A Nova rear was installed with drum brakes but modernized with rack and pinion steering, disc brakes up front steered by a 59 Impala steering wheel. Gregg installed E-Z wiring harness throughout the car to upgrade that area as well. She rolls on a set of 15inx6 wheels shod with Diamond Back wide whites. Suspension was lowered too by way of dropped uprights and 2” blocks in rear to get the stance just right.

Painted a Kirker Hot Rod Black, body mods included a license plate sunken and smoothed as well as custom lower filler panels. He liked the look of the ’52 side trim better so installed that. The dash was smoothed and Vintage A/C added too (Happy Happy Wifey!). Dolphin gauges were added to keep track of all the vitals. Gregg also added 74 drawer pulls from Home Depot to the front grill area, which is very distinctive! Bumpers were flipped and narrowed.

Next up was the interior, which Gregg handed over to The Upholstery Man located in S. Daytona. Black perforated vinyl covers stock seats (Comfy – “wifey” again he says! LOL!) with silver piping, including the headliner/visors. He installed a CD/ MP3 blue tooth by JVC in the glove box so they could listen to all their favorite tunes, new and old.

Did Greg accomplish what his wife wanted? “You betcha” she says, low, slow and Cool too! ‘Happy Wifey, Happy Lifey’!!
