Invasion Car Show

A Labor Day tradition is the Invasion Car Show in Dallas, Texas held in the trendy district of Deep Ellum with one of a kind eateries, specialty shops, tattoo parlors and Texas honky tonks. In 1914 Henry Ford even selected Deep Ellum as a location to put an assembly plant for the Model T which operated there until the mid- 1930’s. The four story East Dallas landmark still stands today which lends to Deep Ellum being the perfect place for a hot rod car show with all the old-fashioned buildings as a picture perfect backdrop.

The area is literally invaded with hot rod and custom cars. The roar of open headers fills the streets with echoes off of the historic buildings as the vintage tin rolls into the show. Many traditional hot rods, mild customs and lowriders line Elm Street as pinup girls stroll by waiting for the right photo opportunity. Believe me there are plenty of opportunities with so many pre 64 hot rods and customs everywhere you look. Every side street, alley and parking lot nearby is full of cool rides. It tends to be a hot day in Texas this time of year but with plenty of ice cold drinks on hand the hardcore gearheads come out and enjoy all the festivities including vendors and music.

Cars come and go throughout the day and late in the afternoon the one of a kind trophies are handed out to deserving winners. Many of the people hang around for the nightlife. The show may be over but as the sun disappears over the horizon Deep Ellum comes alive with new sights and sounds that take over the streets. Elm Street is now lit up with colorful lights and the sound of live music flows out of the clubs and into the night air as the chatter can be heard all around from the restaurant patios.

When you have a show in an area rich with history, have great food and world class entertainment and of course some of the baddest rides on the planet then you are definitely doing things right. The Invasion is fast becoming a must attend event in Texas and with eleven shows under their belt now it runs like a well oiled machine. If you dig traditional styled hot rods and old school customs then you want to be part of the Invasion.
