It’s 25 years young for  Mid America’s Corvette Funfest Car Show

Mike and Laurie Yager launched a customer appreciation party at their Mid America Designs, Inc. headquarters in Effingham, Ill., 25 years ago. Now they and their sons Mike and Blake have hosted ten of thousands of Corvette lovers at this annual event.  This year’s “Silver Anniversary” event on Sept. 20-23, 2018 proved the Corvette enthusiasm is as strong as ever.

Attendees from as far as New York, Florida and California filled Effingham with hundreds of Corvettes from a ’56 roadster with doggie dish hubcaps to dozens of 2018 models that ranged from showroom rarities to tricked out Resto-Mods.

Thursday’s activities included Corvette drag racing at Coles County Dragway USA and an evening road tour through the scenic Illinois countryside. There was a Downtown Party in Effingham on Thursday night

Corvettes started streaming into the Mid America Motorworks Corporate Campus on Friday. They were parked in grassy fields to the North and East of the hosting company’s racetrack style headquarters.

On Friday there were 23 seminars conducted on all types of restoration topics, plus collecting seminars and glances at future Corvettes offered by GM Engineers. These were followed by 28 Saturday seminars covering subjects ranging from Buying a Corvette to Corvette Seat Foam and Seat Cover installation.

Book signings on Author’s Row, Corvette celebrity autograph sessions, a swap meet, on-site product installations in the Install Dome (a kind of fabric barn), tours of Mike Yager’s MY Garage Museum and Corvette Excursions to area destinations were other features of the four-day-long event. The Fun Dome was open for people who wanted to shop for Corvette accessories of all types. The showgrounds also featured a Food Court and a Swapfest with Corvette parts and cars for sale.

Celebrities on hand to greet Corvette owners included former Corvette Chief Engineer Dave McLellan, former Corvette Plant Manager Will Cooksey Jr., Corvette restorers Kevin Mackay and Chris Petris, Corvette tuner Ken Lingenfelter and Mike Yager, who authored the book Corvette Bible.

Celebrity Choice judging of cars was conducted on Friday-Sunday. A St. Jude’s Charity event was held on Friday evening and Saturday night featured a country dinner and a musical mystery tour of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s by Decades Rewind, a 20-member band that performed over 60 rock-and-roll scores while doing over 100 costume changes.
