Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals Car Show

The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, held Nov. 19-20 in Rosemont, Ill.,  featured the “Cars of Carroll Shelby,” “Corvette Legends,” Boss 351 Mustangs, “the Cars of 1971,” Corvette Triple Diamond  judging and special interest cars from a barn find Dodge Charger to a color-code striped Hemi ‘Cuda. Courtney Hansen and Linda Vaughn were on hand to sign autographs, along with dozens of automotive book authors.

The “Cars of Carroll Shelby” included the first 427 Cobra, the ‘66 King Cobra with a Motion Performance 427, a 1-of 4 built ‘65 Shelby GT-350 ragtop and a ‘66 Shelby GT350H Hertz. The Commander Aviation Daytona racing car and a Penske racing car were standouts in the circle of Legendary Corvettes.

Saturday morning’s crowd at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center was the largest ever. Many entered the exhibition hall through the well-lit lobby where cars like the Andy Granatelli Avanti Bonneville racing car were on display.

A large car display trailer owned by Title Sponsor Mecum Auctions stood out as the centerpiece of MCACN. It was surrounded by several hot Mopars and drag racing style Chevy 409s. Stazer Chevrolet and South Oak Dodge also had large trailers in other areas. Reliable Carriers—the official MCACN transporter—had its flashy show truck on display. At the other end of the hall was “Mr Chevy,” with his ’55 Stovebolt gasser and matching ramp truck.

MCACN also presented educational seminars in the rear of the hall. They ranged from Jim Mattison of Pontiac Historic Services talking about General Motors history to presentations about muscle car and Corvette tires. The show also included a large number of vendors selling everything from Mopar pocketbooks to rare parts for Shelby models.
