Advertiser’s Rides

Article By Larry Crain

This series of articles will be dedicated to our many advertisers that are not only people who sell you parts and services, but who are also owners of some pretty cool rides. These men and women are the ones you might see set up as vendors at an event that you would never suspect own one of those awesome looking cars or trucks out in the show area. Our advertisers can be just as big of a gearhead as any of you picking up this magazine and lets hope they are because that means they have the background to sell you the automotive parts or services you might need.

The very first advertiser at the starting light is Sam Papa, owner of Papa’s Speed Shop. Just spend some time with Sam in person or on the phone and you know he is old school-hot rod thru & thru. Check out his website to see the way cool stuff he sells.

Sam’s newest ride is a heavily customized 1949 Ford coupe that can walk the walk and talk the talk with the best of the sleds and is a daily driver to boot. This old school rod runs a flathead V8 Ford with three deuces, hooker headers and of course Cherry Bomb mufflers. This stout little flatty is connected to a Hurst shifted 4-speed manual tranny that puts the power to the road through a Ford 9-inch rear end. The chassis is stock except for a front-end upgrade from Fatman Fabrications that include a power rack. The body is tricked out in numerous ways from the Plymouth bumpers, frenched headlights/taillights and shaved doors/trunk, to the super cool pearl white paint with flames. The interior of Sam’s rolling office is tuck & roll the way it should be in a sled like this.

I hope you have enjoyed this brief walk on the wild side with Sam Papa and his ’49 Ford. Be sure to stop by Papa’s Speed Shop booth at an upcoming event and tell him Cruisin’ Style Magazine sent you.
