Somernites Cruise, the huge monthly gathering of hot rods in Somerset, KY recently wrapped up its 2014 season and rewrote its own record books in the process. Participation by classic car owners during the past season was the best in the show’s 14 year history.

7,904 customs, classics and hot rods cruised into downtown Somerset during the shows 7 month run. Of that number, Cruise organizers say 1,200+ were first-time attendees with many coming from not only outside of Somerset but, beyond the borders of Kentucky. This season’s monthly average of 1,129 classics surpassed the old record which had stood since 2007.
The monthly downtown Show & Shine is wall to wall hot rods with block after block of some of the nicest rides you’ll see anywhere. The show offers a Vendor Alley for new parts, automobilia and food plus a Swap Meet with tons of good, used parts. Classic cruising tunes fill the air and the small town atmosphere just can’t be beat. Best of all, there no admission charge for car owners or spectators!
One of the highlights of a visit to Somernites is the enormous turnout for the Saturday night ‘Cruisin’ the Strip’ festivities. After the downtown Show & Shine concludes, huge numbers of hot rods and spectators gather along the main drag, a six-lane boulevard that runs thru the heart of town. Locals call it “the strip” and it’s the setting for some amazing car cruising fun!

Classics, muscle cars and customs are all out making laps and checking out the scene. You’ll hear the rumble of mighty V8’s and perhaps catch the occasional whiff of tire smoke. If you remember cruising with your buddies or best girl, you’ll enjoy ‘Cruisin’ the Strip’ at Somernites.

2015 will be the 15th season of cruising fun at Somernites and you can expect a big celebration in the “Car Cruise Capital of Kentucky!

Somernites Cruise is held on the fourth Friday-Saturday of each month April thru October in historic Somerset, Ky. The event is held rain or shine and averages over 1,100 show cars & trucks in attendance. Admission is FREE for participants and spectators. Entrance gates open at 1pm (EDT). Visit www.somernitescruise.com for complete event info. We’ll look for you and your hot rod at Somernites Cruise!
