The 29th Annual Southeast Street Rod Nationals

There are several national events throughout the year in the Sunshine State and the NSRA Southeast Street Rod Nationals has become a Florida favorite.

Now in its 29th year, the April show attracted drivers from around the state as well as around the country, all eager to enjoy a weekend of fun. Vehicles from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and now through 1986 were on display at the tree-lined lakes and spacious facilities of the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa, to the delight of the thousands of spectators attending this year’s event.

While street rods may have been the flavor of choice, cool customs, pick ups, restored muscle cars, and pro-touring rides turned out in force, making it a genuinely unique gathering. In addition to the rows of colorful vehicles on display, spectators enjoyed the automotive manufacturer booths featuring all the latest gadgets and upgrades, swap meet vendors with vintage parts for sale, and the Women’s World/Arts and Crafts show.

Drivers could schedule a free NSRA safety inspection for their rides, increasing both their peace of mind and probably the value of the vehicle at trading time. Wings Callahan, the official “Voice” of NSRA, kept you informed throughout the day on the PA system, letting you know if you were one of the lucky door prize winners.

Two of the most exciting portions of the event always occur on Sunday afternoon beginning with the Circle of Winners. Throughout the weekend, manufacturers and NSRA representatives recognize individual achievement and invite the owners of unique vehicles to put them on display for all to admire. Spectators crowded around this collection of the best of the best. Of course the NSRA’s Super Prize Program also gets everyone’s attention with more than $72,000 worth of merchandise given away to registered participants along with three drawings for $3,000 each. The odds were good that you would go home with more than you came with!
